What does a capacitive touchscreen do?
A capacitive touchscreen is a type of touch-sensitive display that works by detecting changes in capacitance. Capacitance refers to the ability of an object to store an electric charge.
In a capacitive touchscreen, there is a layer of capacitive material (usually indium tin oxide, or ITO) overlaying the screen. When you touch the screen with your finger (which conducts electricity), it disrupts the screen's electrostatic field, changing the capacitance at that point. This change in capacitance is detected by sensors located at the corners or edges of the screen.
The touchscreen controller then processes this information to determine the exact location of the touch. Capacitive touchscreens offer several advantages, including multi-touch support, higher durability, and better clarity, making them widely used in smartphones, tablets, and other touch-sensitive devices.
